Week 1 Self-Introduction

Hi everyone! My name is Nikki Jo, but most people call me JoJo for short. Last year was my final season playing college basketball and I cannot begin to tell you how much I miss it. I’m currently coaching basketball at LeMoyne College, which is a Division II college that is located in Syracuse, New York. I’m also bartending at a local sports bar where I live in Rome, NY. I am not currently teaching or certified yet. This is my second year in the Childhood Education Program at NYIT. If I had to describe what “New literacies,” are…I would say “New Literacies” are new techniques of teaching that are made possible by different digital media and technologies. If I had any concerns about this course it would be just being able to juggle my two jobs and the work load. I had Dr. Hsu for two other courses so if anyone else did you all ready heard my joke. I don’t know why but I still laugh every time I say this joke: “A kindergarten teacher handed out a coloring page to her class. On it was a picture of a duck holding an umbrella. The teacher told her class to color the duck in yellow and the umbrella green, however, Bobby, the class rebel, colored the duck in a bright fire truck red. After seeing this, the teacher asked him: "Bobby, how many times have you see a red duck?" Young Bobby replied with "The same number of times I've seen a duck holding an umbrella.”  If I wrote a book about myself, I would name it “On and Off the Court.” Below is a picture of my puppy that I just got for my birthday her name is Luna and she is an all white German Shepherd <3.
